The Battle of Long Island was a military conflict that took place in the Brooklyn New York area during the revolutionary war. The battle was officially the 1st military engagement after the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The battle involved general George Washington of the Continental Army and General Howe of The British Army. Although the Continental army put up a good fight against the British, the army was defeated and forced to retreat to New Jersey.
